Admission Requirements for the Doctor of Medical Science Program

Applicants to the DMSc degree program must be PAs who have successfully graduated from an accredited entry-level PA program and must currently hold either a National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification/recertification or a state license to practice as a PA. PAs (or recognized international equivalents) working in research, education, or industry outside of medicine may be considered on a case-by-case basis. A high degree of professionalism is expected.

Required Items:

  • Earned master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited U.S. institution or an international university (with an evaluation from an agency on the NACES website).
  • Official transcripts from all degree-granting colleges and universities previously attended, directly from the institution either mailed or sent electronically.
  • An updated, comprehensive curriculum vitae.
  • Active state license number or NCCPA certification number.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English (the language of instruction of this program). When the applicant speaks and/or writes in English as a second language, the applicant must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score for review. International students must have a TOEFL score and an evaluation of any international transcripts.

Physician Assistants/Associates (PAs) entering the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education DMSc program have opportunities to increase their knowledge through their experiences. Applications for credit recognizing prior experiences that complement and/or duplicate degree requirements must be made near the beginning of the program and will be promptly reviewed. The ability to earn credit for prior learning (CPL) provides a pathway for students to receive credit in addition to ACHE’s regular credit transfer policy.  Students will be able to apply for up to 12 credit hours of CPL within 3 months of starting the DMSc program.

  • Individuals can submit their application for a portfolio review and/or earned NCCPA Certificate(s) of Added Qualification review.
  • CPL will not be applicable for DMSc Certificates, which may be available.
  • Specific instructions and forms will be available after submission of an application to ACHE’s DMSc program.
